What Is Medical Oxygen Manufacturing Plant
In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, we have been fabricating
medical oxygen manufacturing plant for the meeting the requirements of
hospitals. No denying the requirement of medical grade oxygen has increased
manifold since the advent of the pandemic. It is specifically designed for
providing relief to the patients suffering from low level of oxygen. The plant
is able to generate oxygen comprising not less than 99.0 per cent v/v and
carbon not more than 300ppm v/v. Further, medical oxygen should not contain
carbon monoxide not more than 5ppm v/v and water vapor not more than 67ppm v/v.
How Does Medical Oxygen Manufacturing Plant Work
Working of the air separation plant is based on cryogenic
distillation. In the first step, atmospheric air is taken which is then
filtered and compressed. Thereafter, the air is cooled to ambient temperature
after it has been run through heat exchangers.
In the 2nd step, impurities like water vapor,
carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons are eliminated by passing the compressed gas
through the molecular sieve. Then, the air is directed into the distillation
column of the plant. In the 3rd
step, the feed air is cooled to cryogenic temperatures in the heat exchangers
where cold streams come out of the air separation columns. Extremely low
temperatures are achieved by refrigeration process.
In the final step, for separation of the processed air into a desired product, a high pressure and low pressure distillation columns are used. The bottom of the low pressure column produces oxygen and nitrogen is generated from the top of the column.
